Indian student in Australia loses AUD15,000 after being misled by migration agent

 Most Indian students seek services of Migration Agents in Australia when they want to extend their stay there. Pushpender Singh, who arrived in Sydney from New Delhi as a student in 2008, was, however, misled by a Sydney-based agent, who is most likely not an accredited one, by  leading him to lose AUD15,000.

Singh approached this Migration Agent, presumably an agent who is not recognised by Australian authorities, when he decided to extend his stay in Down Under after he graduated. Singh was quoted by Special Broadcasting Service Corporation as saying that he was recommended this migration agent by his friends.

He was asked to relocate to Perth and apply for the regional sponsored Migration Scheme Visa (187 visa) by this agent. Singh’s migration agent also reportedly told him that it was not necessary for him to get his occupation assessed for 187 visa. He heeded his agent’s advice and moved to Perth. When Singh went to India and returned after a short break, he was told by this same migration agent that to apply for 187 visa, he required to get his occupation assessed. This unnecessarily cost Singh AUD15,000.

Singh, who now lives in Perth, is a Permanent Resident Visa holder. He has warned his other Indian friends not to be led astray like he was. He has suggested to them to run through the website of the Immigration Department and asked them to pose questions to their agents.
