IELTS test centers make every effort to cater to the need and requirement of candidates with special requirements. The entire process may take up to 3 months. Hence it is advised that you make the application as soon as possible.

Nevertheless, we at Y-Axis are always looking to help you with the process. Let’s have a look at how test-takers with special requirements can avail of such special arrangements.

Visual Difficulties:

You may need to provide a medical certificate to the centre. The special arrangements to be made by the centre include:

  • An extra 25% of the normal time
  • Permission to use equipment like – screen magnification software, screen reader software and refreshable Braille displays
  • Permission to use your own equipment for writing such as – mechanical or electronic Braille keyboard, word processor and Braille note taker
  • Making Braille exam papers available

If you cannot see, partially sighted or have problems seeing, Y-Axis may be able to help you take your IELTS test.

Hearing or Speaking Difficulties:

Your centre may ask you to provide a medical certificate before the special arrangements are made. The arrangements include:

  • Permission to use Hearing aid, Wireless systems or Special amplification system. In this case, you should give the centre 2 weeks’ notice
  • Permission to take a Hearing-impaired or Lip-reading version of the listening test
  • Permission for extra time
  • Exemption from the tests in case of a severe hearing or speaking difficulty

If you have hearing or speaking difficulties, Y-Axis may be able to help you take your exam.

Learning Difficulties:

You must give the centre a report of your learning difficulties which include:

  • Details of your difficulty and test reports
  • Reports written by a qualified psychologist
  • Reports written when you were aged 12 or older

The permitted special arrangements include:

  • Extra 25% of the normal time
  • Writing of answers using a computer or word processor
  • Provision of enlarged print copies of the exam paper
  • Having a copier

If you have specific learning difficulties, like dyslexia, Y-Axis may be able to help you take your IELTS test.
