As of January 1, 2011, in the Czech Republic, the Blue Card will serve as an alternative to the current work permit system for qualified foreign nationals. The foreign national will be required to possess a high-level professional qualification as well as meet certain minimum salary requirements to qualify. The card will be valid for the duration of the foreign national’s employment contract and will also allow for a three-month departure period, up to a maximum stay of two years. The card cannot be extended.
