Study abroad has a lot to do with making the right decisions. Right from selecting the most suitable course to shortlisting the best universities to pursue the same, proper guidance is important for ensuring that your study abroad experience is the best that it can be. Let us see what makes it worthwhile to seriously consider the UK for study abroad in 2020.
Launch of the 2-year post-study work visa
In September 2019, the UK government announced a new “Graduate Route” targeting talented international students.
The Graduate Route involves a 2-year post-study work visa that will be made available to all international students and will be launched for the 2020/21 intake.
It is estimated that many Indian students stand to benefit from the new visa.
To be eligible for the 2-year post-study work visa, an international student must have –
- Valid immigration status in the UK as a student, and
- Successfully completed a course of study in any of the subjects either at the undergraduate level or above at any of the approved UK higher education providers.
Students eligible for the visa can stay on for 2 years in the UK on the completion of their studies. They can spend these 2 years in the UK for either working or looking for work. There is no restriction as to the career or position that the international students can opt for.
The 2-year post-study work visa is an attempt by the UK to “recruit and retain the best and brightest global talent”. It also seeks to open up various opportunities for future breakthroughs in research, science, and technology that would result from international talent coming to the UK.

When compared to other English-speaking countries like the US or Australia, the costs of study abroad are relatively lower in the UK.
In addition to the tuition fees being lower, the costs for applying for the student visa are also less when compared to Australia and the US.

As an established hub for higher education, the UK has many students from across the globe. With many universities all over the country, the number of international students in the UK is quite impressive. Coming from diverse backgrounds, students in the UK belong to a wide range of countries.
