If you apply for a graduate degree in management at a business school, then you should know about the GMAT test. The GMAT score is recognized by the best schools of business and management worldwide.

GMAT is a computer adaptive test (CAT) that assesses students’ theoretical, written, quantitative, and verbal competencies. The GMAT is developed and conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC).

The GMAT exam consists of four sections:

  • Analytical Writing Assessment
  • Integrated Reasoning
  • Quantitative Reasoning
  • Verbal Reasoning

The duration of the exam is 3 hours and 7 minutes. There is an option to either take a paper-based or computerized test. The GMAT’s maximum score is 800. Students must strive for a minimum score of 600 to get admitted to a reputed management college.

How to prepare for GMAT?

Start early: Generally, the time needed for preparing for the GMAT is 2 to 6 months, depending on individual abilities. Begin the preparation for your GMAT exam at least six months before the test results are due. Most test-takers say a minimum time of eight weeks of study is appropriate if you are somewhat familiar with the material of the GMAT exams. Still, you are the best judge of how soon you want to start your preparation.

Review and revise: Review and revise one section of the test at a time. Revise your basic skills in mathematics. Practice pacing, as time management is crucial for completing the GMAT test. Explore the types of questions in all four sections – Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Verbal, and Quantitative Reasoning.

Use mock tests in your preparation: Maintaining a training plan with a schedule is crucial. You can then track your progress by taking the given mock tests. The most effective way to study is to get to know the GMAT test through mock exams. Mock tests allow you to practice your questions. They help you familiarize yourself with the layout of the test, the format, and the types of questions that you will face.

Know your skills and abilities: The keys to a successful GMAT  Exam Preparation is to know your own level of skill and performance, what areas you are good at, and what you still need to learn and change your study habits accordingly.

In the end, it’s how smart you’re learning, not just how long you’re learning that counts. Plan a study strategy that helps you to understand how much time you need and one that uncovers your challenges which you should overcome to improve your performance in your exam results.
