For the IELTS test, memorizing allows you to develop certain abilities when it comes to language tests. There are some things that you cannot memorize, though. You can also not memorize mechanically, since it will not help you learn long-term English. The blog today will introduce stuff you can memorize and stuff you cannot memorize and how to memorize efficiently.

What you should not memorize

Never memorize responses to speaking or writing, such as a chunk of sentences or a whole essay. Some students think that if they memorize prepared answers and use them in the exam, they will do better. Examiners will potentially easily spot them and lower your ranking. Besides, you will get even more anxious during the exam if you receive a question that you have not practiced. In addition, it doesn’t help you understand the language and use it at all. Memorizing answers is therefore a terrible idea.

What you should memorize

  1. Vocabulary

Vocabulary is the first thing. In order to learn a language and take a language test, learning vocabulary is very important. By using different words in speaking and writing, increasing your vocabulary allows you to better understand the recording, improve your reading speed, and effectively communicate ideas.

  1. Phrases

When planning for the IELTS, you can and should memorize some useful phrases. In speaking and writing exercises, these phrases allow you to relate ideas and structure your responses.

  1. Structure

Sentence structures and essay structures can also be memorized. It is different from recalling phrases in whole chunks.

  1. Supporting information

This refers to evidence and facts that are used in speaking and writing to support the theories. You don’t have to memorize them word by word. Instead gather some helpful information and note what they are for. In your exam, you can describe them in your own language.

 How to memorize

Using context

You can hardly recall things by mechanical memorization. Using meaningful methods, such as a story and a conversation, is the most effective way to recall words and phrases.

Practice

The most helpful way to remember them is to practice when it comes to phrases, structures, and proof.

In learning a language, you can avoid rote memorization. To enhance your IELTS ranking, try to use fun and efficient ways to recall useful words, phrases, expressions, structures, and facts!
