UAE Golden Visa

According to Major General Mohammad Al Marri, director-general of GDRFA-Dubai, a total of 7,000 Golden visas had been granted so far. Major General Al Marri was speaking at the Cityscape Global Summit in the previous week.

The beneficiaries, belonging to 103 nationalities, were investors, scientists, athletes, and their families.

In a major extension announced on November 15, 2020, the UAE has extended the eligibility for the UAE Golden Visa to include many other occupations as well.

Launched in 2019, the Golden visa of the UAE is a long-term residence visa.

The UAE Golden visa allows foreign nationals to live, work and study in the UAE without the requirement of a national sponsor. To be eligible, the foreign national must have a 100% ownership of their business on the UAE’s mainland.

The UAE Golden visas are issued for 5 or 10 years, and are to be renewed automatically.

As per a November 15 announcement, the 10-year Golden visa has now been approved for –

  • All PhD holders in the UAE
  • Top graduates from UAE-accredited universities with a GPA of 3.8 and above
  • UAE-based physicians as well as engineers in the fields of electronics, computer science, electricity programming, and biotechnology
  • Specialists in AI, big data, virology, epidemiology
  • Top graduates of UAE’s high school and their families

From 2019, the UAE has begun granting 5-years’ and 10-years’ renewable visas to certain entrepreneurs, outstanding students, foreign investors, scientists and chief executives.

The very first Golden card was granted to an Indian – Lalu Samuel, the Chairman and MD of Kingston Holdings.

In recent years, the UAE has made its visa policy more flexible, providing the option of longer residencies for certain types of professionals, students, and investors.

Earlier in September 2020, Dubai had announced the launch of the “Retire in Dubai” programme, a long-term visa for retired residents over 55 years old.

Dubai had granted 212 Golden Visas to doctors amid COVID-19. These doctors were granted 10-year Golden Visas as appreciation for their efforts in combating COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Major General Al Marri, “UAE will achieve the 2071 ambitious vision. We started the year 2020 with strong economic boost, but the global pandemic caused a temporary slowdown in growth ….. There is a strong sign of recovery through the gradual increase in number of arrivals at Dubai Airports. It will accelerate the growth of various economic sectors.”
