An international university-ranking system has revealed the top places to study in the UK and around the world, with 65 British institutions making it to the top 1,000.
The list, compiled by the Centre for World University Rankings, shows the UK’s top 10 institutions have all featured within the world’s top 140.
The rest of the world top 10 is dominated by US universities. Harvard, Stanford and MIT are ranked by the centre as the top three universities in the world.
In the homegrown battle for the UK top 10, the University of Nottingham pipped the universities of Southampton and Birmingham for 10th place, rising two places on last year’s rankings.
The list is based predominantly on quality of education, alumni employment and quality of faculty. The number of publications published by the institutions, their influence, patents, citations and broader impact are also considered, but with a lesser weighting.
