Police at Indiana State University have issued an alert for international students on campus.

According to the alert, an international student received a phone call from someone claiming to be a U.S. government official.

The number that called the student appeared to be 911 on the caller ID.

The caller demanded the student write a letter of apology and send money immediately to avoid being forced to leave the country.

The caller claimed the student was in violation of immigration and student visa laws.

Police say if you receive a call like this, it is fraudulent.

If you have received a call like this, police ask that you contact them at 812-237-5555.
