North Carolina state’s commercial hub, Charlotte, needs more foreign IT workers on H-1B visas to fill its vacancies. Work permit.com is quoted as saying that IT employers in this city say that the H-1B visa programme will allow them to hire people for positions for which there were not adequate native applicants with the requisite qualifications and expertise.

The demand for H-1B visa workers is said to be rising across the US. This year more than 236,000 H-1B visa petitions were received for the fiscal year 2017 by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) as against 233,000 visa applications for the year 2016. The demand in Charlotte, in particular, has shot up in the last few years.

The Charlotte Observer was quoted as saying that many employers filed applications in 2015 for more than 16,500 H-1B jobs in the Charlotte area, of which most applications were for IT jobs.

According to officials in Charlotte, scarcity of computer science graduates has been aggravating the problem in this city.

Another interesting piece of information that comes to the fore when H-1B visa issue is being discussed is that Indians are the largest users of this visa program. This is because technology is popular among English-speaking youngsters in India. This particular lot looks at the US as its preferred destination to shift to.

According to the US federal government statistics, about 70 percent of the H-1B visa recipients in 2014 were from India.
