What is?

UK Sponsorship Visa

A Sponsor is an organization based in the UK, who is willing to hire foreign nationals to work for them in the UK. According to the UK Government’s website, a foreign national is a person who does not belong to the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.

How to get a Sponsor License and other information

  1. The business should be legitimate and be registered with the correct governmental authorities.
  2. Be eligible to apply, which means that no criminal issues should be unsolved.
  3. Choose the right license; Tier 2 or Tier 5. Tier 2 visa is for skilled workers with offers for long term while Tier 5 visa for skilled temporary workers.
  4. A point of contact has to be established to manage the sponsorship system. In addition to a person of considerable authority, UK based legal representatives can also be authorized as representatives.
  5. In order to hire overseas talent, the potential employer has to get registered as a Licensed Sponsor from the UK Border Agency.
  6. Get certified supporting documents.
  7. Apply online and pay the required fee. It takes about two months for the sponsorship to be approved.
  8. If selected, a license rating is provided.
  9. This will allow the employer to produce Certificate of Sponsorship for issue.
  10. The employer should not violate any rules which might end in the employer losing the License to Sponsor.
  11. The license is valid for 4 years.

Note: The UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) agency has the right to visit the place of work to check its suitability and capabilities to act as legitimate sponsors.

As responsible sponsors, the employer is liable to inform the UK Border Agency in case of violations by the foreign employee, like the employee not reporting for work on the first day, in absentia for more than 10 days, end of job contract, withdrawal of sponsorship by the employer, or for reasons of criminal activities by the employee.
