In a bid to meet its goal of attracting 7.5 million foreigners into its country per year by 2020, the Cambodian government has decided to issue a three-year multiple entry visas from 1 September.

This visa is said to be a new strategy of the government to lure foreign nationals to come to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Khmer Times quotes Thong Khon, Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism, as saying on 17 August that this visa would allow foreigners to stay in Cambodia for up to three years. To be made available from 1 September to foreign nationals of all countries, the price of the visa would vary based on the duration of stay, said Khon. He added that by using this new entry visa, tourists and business people can enter and leave Cambodia several times within its validity period. It would make it convenient for tourists and investors to apply for a stay of two years or three years with multiple entries, he said. Cambodia is hoping to welcome around 7.5 million foreign tourists by 2020, according to the goal announced by the Southeast Asian country. Of the targeted 7.5 million tourists it hopes to attract, two million would be from China and 300,000 from Japan. These numbers were cited from the Cambodia Tourism Marketing Strategy 2016-2020. Ho Vandy, Cambodia’s National Tourism Alliance secretary-general, said that the measure to extend visas is one of its plans to develop the Kingdom’s tourism sector. Currently, Cambodia offers tourism visas to visitors from Asean countries a stay lasting between 14 days and one month. Tourists from the European Union and the US are, on the other hand, are allowed to stay for a month. Business people are eligible to renew their visa for a period of one month, three months, six months or up to a year.
