Regarded to be the mainstay of Canadian immigration, Canada’s Express Entry system manages the pool of candidates for the 3 main economic immigration programs of the federal government of Canada.
What are the programs managed through the Express Entry System?
The Federal Skilled Worker Program [FSWP] | For skilled workers with foreign work experience intending to immigrate to Canada permanently. |
The Federal Skilled Trades Program [FSTP] | For skilled workers that intend taking up Canada PR based on being qualified in a skilled trade. |
The Canadian Experience Class [CEC] | For skilled workers that have Canadian work experience and want to take up Canadian permanent residence. |
With around 80 immigration pathways, the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] of Canada has various ‘streams’ or pathways aligned with the federal Express Entry system.
According to the new figures by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC], the processing of 57,365 permanent resident applications was finalized by IRCC from January to October 2020.
Of these, around 40% were processed through the FSWP.
Canada PR applications finalized by IRCC [January to October 2020]
Program processed through | Applications processed |
FSWP | 22,875 |
CEC | 21,440 |
Express Entry-aligned streams of the PNP | 12,490 |
FSTP | 560 |
Total applications processed by IRCC | 57,365 |
A majority of the cases finalized by IRCC between January and October 2020 had been submitted prior to the imposition of travel restrictions by the Canadian government on March 18, 2020.
These latest figures by IRCC do not reflect the practices adopted by IRCC between March and August this year wherein program-specific Express Entry draws were held by IRCC, alternating between the PNP and CEC. The next year’s data might show the increase of permanent resident admissions through the PNP and CEC.
