Canada immigration update – All draws in May 2021

As per the 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan, Canada will be welcoming a total of 401,000 newcomers in 2021.

Of these, 108,500 will be acquiring permanent residence in Canada through the Express Entry system, managed by the federal government of Canada through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC].

Another 80,800 will get their Canada PR as nominees under the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] of Canada.

Here, we shall see all the draws – federal as well as provincial – held by Canada in May 2021.

[I] Federal Draws in May 2021

A total of 5 federal Express Entry draws were held in May 2021.

As has been more the norm rather than the exception, Canada has continued with holding federal IRCC draws alternating between the Canadian Experience Class [CEC] on one hand and the PNP on the other.

No all-program draws were held this month.

[II] Provincial Draws in May 2021

Canada is made up of 10 provinces and 3 territories.

9 Canadian provinces [with the exception of Quebec], and 2 territories [with the exception of Nunavut] are part of the Provincial Nominee Program, also referred to as Canada PNP.

Quebec, under the Canada-Quebec Accord, has its own immigration program. Nunavut, on the other hand, does not have any immigration program for the induction of newcomers into the territory.

Recently, Quebec announced 3 new permanent immigration pilot programs.

All of the 3 immigration pilot programs are now open and accepting applications.

[B] Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] invitations in May 2021

Among the notable PNP developments this month was Ontario PNP holding the first Expression of Interest [EOI] draw on May 11, 2021.

Ontario has announced an EOI system for 5 OINP streams. The new EOI system has been launched for 2 of the OINP streams so far.
