Rohail Khan and his brother, Sohail, never forgot the humiliation their father, Ahmed, endured when he emigrated from India via Great Britain to Canada in 1967.

He worked as an engineer for Jaguar in the U.K. and thought with a Canadian visa he would quickly find an engineering position and send for his wife, two sons and two daughters in a couple of months.

“It took him five years to find an engineering job in Canada,” Rohail Khan said, adding, “so he had to drive taxis, clean bathrooms and do whatever survival job he could find to support himself and us back in the U.K.”

Educated in Canada, Rohail and Sohail became successful businessmen. “But we never forgot the humiliation our father suffered during those early years in Canada.”

In 2005, the two brothers developed patent-pending job-matching career management software. A year later they founded Skills International, which has helped more than 23,000 immigrants with professional visas connect to the right jobs faster.

“We don’t want another Indian immigrant to take a menial job,” Khan said.

In 2013, Canada saw a shortage of skilled professions and created Express Entry, a new immigration policy that was launched Jan. 1, 2015, to fast-track immigrants who are qualified professionals and have job offers from Canadian companies.

“This new policy is a stroke of genius, unlike any immigration policy we’ve ever seen,” Khan said. “Sohail and I saw that Skills International could now help professionals living outside of Canada build a detailed career plan and connect to the right first jobs in Canada, while simultaneously still working in their home countries.”

A former executive at Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Aon-Hewitt and Xerox, Khan said his company is targeting India, which provides about 30,000 immigrants to Canada annually, second only to China.

“I’ve been responsible for hiring more than 20,000 IT and business operations professionals in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and other places, so I know about the high-level of skilled talent” (there).

SI hosted more than 50 conferences in India last April to detail Express Entry and SI’s management solution. Additional “CanadaJobs2015” seminars will be held at top hotels in Bangalore Jan. 10-11 and in Hyderabad Jan. 17-18. Qualified professionals can register atwww.canadajobs2015.com.

“Our model is only for serious professionals who have a long-term, outcome-based perspective about their lives and careers,” Khan said. “It’s about having a strategic career plan that helps you get the right first job in Canada and then continue to build out your career, one that positions you for future financial, professional and lifestyle success.”
