Immigration to Canada

According to a recent announcement by the Canadian government, the country is planning to invite more than a million immigrants by 2022. The immigration policy aims to invite 341,000 immigrants in 2020, 351,000 immigrants in 2021 and up to 390,000 immigrants in 2022.

The country is eager to welcome immigrants to offset the low population growth due to an aging population and a low birthrate. People from other countries are eager to move to Canada owing to its growing economy and the numerous job opportunities it offers.

The immigration department of Canada has decided to welcome 58 percent of immigrants through economic class programs such as Express Entry programs, the Provincial Nominee Program, Quebec’s programs, and other federal streams such as the Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP).

The government has planned to increase its PNP admission target by 20 percent in 2022. It plans to invite 5,200 immigrants under the following pilot programs which include:

Agri-Food Immigration Pilot:

Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot:

The government plans to double its intake or immigrants under these programs in 2022. It plans to improve its PNP admission targets by 20 percent in 2022.

Targets for the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) will remain stable at 5000.

Under the new immigration plan 26 percent of immigrants will be welcomed under the family class, while 16 percent will be admitted on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.

The recent announcement of immigration levels is a move towards improving the size of Canada’s labor force and ensure contribution to its economy through immigrants who will contribute as workers, taxpayers and consumers.

The announcement of immigration levels is expected to add to Canada’s immigration target of around 3.5 million for this decade compared to 2.8 million between 2010-2019.
