French President Emmanuel Macron and Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel have declared to give a fresh momentum to Europe and said that the treaties of the European Union will be suitably amended if so needed, quotes New Indian Express.
Speaking at a joint press conference after holding discussions with Macron, Merkel said that it is accepted that the focus must shift beyond the exit of the UK from EU in making European Union crisis-proof particularly the European zone.
Conforming to the established tradition, French President visited German Chancellor on his first foreign tour after being sworn in office.
Macron also demanded that Europe must be revamped historically in order to combat the wave of populism after he defeated Marine Le Pen, the leader of the far right.
Before Visiting Germany, macron had suggested series of reforms to the EU that include separate European Parliament, an exclusive budget for the EU and a Finance Minister.
Angela Merkel responded by saying that Germany is open to make sensible changes to the EU. If the reasons for the change are well established and proved, then changes to the EU treaty can be made effective, added the German Chancellor.
Germany was also prepared to collaborate with France in securing enhanced association for the defense policy, said Merkel. More rational international policy for the European Union is needed to make the bloc stronger and visible, elaborated Angela Merkel.
The German chancellor elaborated on the ties between Germany and France by saying that the two founding members of the EU intend to give a fresh momentum to their bilateral relations and the German-French alliance.
