As per the Canadian immigration department’s Express Entry Year-End Report 2020, there were a total of 360,998 Express Entry profiles submitted in 2020. In 2019, there were 266,597 profiles submitted through the federal Express Entry system.
Among the total profiles submitted in 2020, around 74% were eligible for at least one of the federal programs that come under the Express Entry system handled through the department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

What is Express Entry? | Launched in January 2015, Express Entry is an application management system used for Canadian permanent residence applications from skilled workers. |

What’s new in 2020? | Service limitations and disruptions, along with border restrictions led to IRCC to adapt to the new conditions presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Changes in 2020 include – · ITA validity temporarily changed from 60 to 90 days. Those receiving an ITA after June 29, 2021 must submit Canada PR application within 60 days. · Since March 2020, IRCC has focused more on candidates that had a higher likelihood of already being within Canada. · Increase in number of ranking points available to French-speaking and bilingual candidates. With effect from October 20, 2020, French-speaking candidates get 25 points (up from 15), and bilingual candidates to get 50 points (up from 30). |

Since March 2020, IRCC has been focusing more on Express Entry candidates that were more likely to already be within Canada at the time of submitting their permanent residence application.
Such candidates include those with a provincial nomination under Canadian PNP or those with previous and recent Canadian experience making them eligible for the CEC.

In the sixth year of its operation, Canada’s Express Entry application management system continued to provide a pathway to Canada PR for a wide range of highly-skilled candidates that were able to demonstrate the potential to successfully integrate into and contribute to the Canadian economy.
