Getting a business visa just got easier

JOHANNESBURG – Home Affairs is trying to make it easier for large foreign businesses to operate in South Africa.

The department’s launched a premium visa and permit centre in Johannesburg.

Authorities hope this will also alleviate pressure at Home Affairs offices in the city and help boost investment in South Africa.

The centre promises to have applicants in and out within about 10 minutes.

Home Affairs minister Malusi Gigaba says the usual waiting period for a visa will also be reduced from eight weeks, to four — but, not all foreign-owned businesses will be able to use the service.

“We talking here about large business or organisations which are accredited with our corporate accounts unit. We realised that a whole lot of our documents are offered so inefficiently and in a process create a gap for corruption and fraud.”

Home Affairs says it’s committed to improving its management of international migration, and in line with that, it may extend the service to other parts of the country
