How many points are required for Australia PR in 2022?

Are you planning to migrate to Australia in 2022? Do you know how many points are required to obtain a PR visa in Australia in 2022? So, when you apply for Australia PR, you need 65 points under the SkillSelect program for subclass 189 and subclass 190 visas.

Reasons why people want to migrate to Australia

People want to work and settle in Australia because it has a robust economy, availability of numerous jobs across various sectors, such as IT, engineering, education, healthcare, hospitality, quality of living, finance, business, and more, the social security policies of the ‘Land Down Under,’ world-class healthcare, excellent educational facilities for children, multicultural society, and more.

Plans for migration to Australia in 2022

Australia follows a points-based system to determine a person’s eligibility for migrating to it as a skilled worker. If you score between 80 and 85 points, you will be invited much sooner, approximately in one to two months.

For the following Australian visas, you will require to obtain a minimum of 65 points to be eligible. The eligibility score would be calculated as per the applicants’ age (those with less than the age of 45 are eligible), Proficiency in English Language, employment outside Australia, employment in Australia, educational qualifications, studies in Australia, niche educational skills, partner skills (age and educational qualifications of spouses or partners), satisfy the health and character requirements, and others.

The following are the PR visas of Australia.

Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)

This visa is given to overseas workers who have skills that the Australian government requires. Subclass 189 visa holders are allowed to live and reside permanently in Australia. They would not need to be nominated or sponsored.

Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)

Skilled Nominated visas also allow its holders to live and reside permanently in Australia. Just like for subclass 189, you can apply for subclass 190 if you have received an invitation to apply.

For both subclasses 189 and 190, you must get 65 points, receive an invitation to apply, be eligible for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL), and prove that you are proficient in English by passing an IELTS exam with a high band score.

Though the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is considered the more common exam for English for people intending to migrate to Australia, you can also appear for the tests, such as Test of English as a Foreign language, Internet-based test (TOEFL iBT), Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), Pearson Test of English (PTE), and Occupational English Test (OET).

The major difference between Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) and Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) is that the former is suitable for skilled workers. However, the Subclass 190 visa is granted to skilled workers who receive a nomination from a state/territory in Australia. People receiving sponsorship are not eligible for this visa.

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Subclass 491 Visa

This visa replaced the Subclass 489 Visa as a route to achieve a PR visa. This visa requires skilled workers and their families to live, study, and work in nominated regional areas of Australia for five years.

Both the Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) and Family Sponsored (Subclass 491) are solely points-based visas.

Recent changes to SkillSelect programs

The selection for SkillSelect programs has seen the score requirements climb up to 90 points in the past few years, especially for the Subclass 189 visa.
