Since immigrants have strengthened the economy of Michigan, they should not be viewed with apprehension, but they should be encouraged to come is the upshot of a study by the Partnership for a New Economy, a bipartisan group that advocates immigration reform.
According to that study, around residents of 642,000 Michigan are immigrants. They earned $19.6 billion and contributed $5.4 billion through federal, state and local taxes in 2014.
This view is endorsed by Karen Phillippi who works with the Michigan Office for New Americans. Citing the report, she says that immigrants are more likely to launch startups and create more employment opportunities than citizens of the United States.
The federal ceiling on work visas, however, implies that firms in Michigan can employ immigrants only in certain high-tech jobs.
Phillippi was quoted by michiganradio.org as saying that USCIS (US Citizenship and Immigration Services) exhausts those visas every year. As per Phillipi, adequate visas have not been made available for agricultural workers. Therefore, she suggests welcoming refugees who can make up for the shortages in this particular sector. A lot of refugees are entering Michigan and many of them hail from agricultural communities of their home countries, she adds.
Phillippi’s group’s mandate is to try to teach the locals on how immigration would benefit Michigan, and she holds the view that education of this type is crucial at this juncture when certain politicians are adopting a negative stance on it.
If you are looking to migrate to the US, come to Y-Axis and avail help and assistance to file for an appropriate visa at one of its 19 offices, which are located all over India.
