To immigrate to Germany pays off, if you get integrated even more. According to a report from the Deutsches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (DIW), the average salary of immigrants is €1.273, over twice as high as it was in their own countries, €503. Furthermore, the better a foreigner speaks German, the higher the wage is, with an average increase by 22%, mainly due to the possibility to get a qualified job. The recognition of professional or vocational qualifications makes even bigger difference, rising salaries by 28%. A third of the immigrants applied for the recognition, and 50% of the application were completely successful (20% only partially). Nevertheless, the majority of foreigners get the first job through their personal network (family and friends) while only 20% through a public or private job centre.
