Indians to get faster immigration security clearance at US Airports

India and USA have inked an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) in order to provide pre-approved and ‘low-risk’ Indians hassle-free entry into the US.

The signatories of the MoU were Arun K Singh, the Indian Ambassador to the US, and Deputy Commissioner of US Customs and Border Protection, Kevin K McAleena.

This is part of an exclusive US programme named ‘International Expedited Traveller Initiative’, also known as the Global Entry Program, for creating a hassle-free entry for those nationals whose applications are pre-approved as they are regarded low risk and safe.

India joins eight other nations of an elite group which is entitled to this initiative of the US.

Henceforth, it would be possible for Indians to enter USA from about 40 US airports which are part of the Global Entry Program, in addition to 12 preclearance locations. This implies that Indians need not go through prolonged security checks and other attendant irksome procedures.

This is said to be an outcome of Prime Minister’s Modi’s warm relations with the US in the recent months. Other results arising out of these ties are long-term visas for non-resident Indians (NRIs) wishing to visit India and e-visa facility for Americans visiting India.

Arun K Singh, after signing the MoU, said that the ease of entry for Indians at the US airports under this programme will further bolster the travel environment between the two countries, besides having an encouraging effect on the people-to-people exchange between the two countries.

Indians who want to know which airports offer smooth entry, and also who are considered safe tourists can contact Y-Axis at one of its 24 offices located across the globe for advice and assistance while travelling to the US.
