Many Indians wanting to make their future better in the US apply for F1 visas or H1-B visas. But the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program, which is less popular compared to the aforementioned visas, is catching the fancy of many an Indian of late.
Under the EB-5 Visa program, an immigrant should invest $500,000 in a new US business, and if it is proved that the capital has been legally procured and the business could create a minimum of 10 full-time jobs, investors will obtain green cards for themselves and their close family members such as spouses and children below the ages of 21.
When applying for the EB-2 or EB-3 visas, applicants have to wait for long periods, which may extend up to more than 10 years. On the other hand, the EB-5 program has quick assessment times and the approval rates are also high, with about 90 percent and more of them getting the nod. Applicants of EB-5 Visas could also obtain their conditional green cards within two years, providing them with the opportunity of accessing various educational and career opportunities.
Searching for a job after graduating in the US can be tough, at times, for F1 visa holders, as they are given only three months to get a job after which they have to register themselves with the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services). People unable to obtain a job within these three months would have to leave the country.
That foreign students must pursue employment opportunities in their fields of study restricts their options and heightens competition for them. In addition, very few businesses would be willing to sponsor H-1B Visa holders. Employers, in fact, do not opt for candidates who need to be sponsored and, therefore, their chances of getting jobs are slimmer.
As the EB-5 Visa holders are treated on par with US citizens, students who apply for jobs after graduation do not have to sweat it out, unlike temporary visa holders.
According to India Today, there are more than one million foreign students in the US universities, so being green card holders increase their chances of being accepted in schools or universities of their choice. These people also stand a chance of getting admission into one of the Ivy League universities. They also have to shell out lesser tuition fees at universities in the US. They can also make themselves eligible for FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and other financial aid services provided by the US, which would not be available to other visa holders.
