USA Work and Study Visa

There were totally 1,051,031 Immigrants in the United States who obtained the LPR (Lawful Permanent Resident) status in 2015, according to the statistics revealed by the US DHS (Department of Homeland Security).  Of them, Indians, who comprise six percent, are the third-largest group, ranking behind Mexico and China with 15 percent and seven percent, respectively.

If the Philippines and Cuba are added to these three, then these nations would together make up for about 39 percent of people who managed to obtain LPR status, or Green Cards, in 2015.

Tanuj Patel, joint Managing Director of LD Capital Bridge, was quoted by the ANI (Asian News International)–NewsVoir as saying that the third-largest group of Immigrants to the US is Indians. This goes against the common perception in India that immigrants to the US are only IT professionals and students, he adds.

Listing out the advantages of the EB – 5 Visa program, which is an investment based immigration program managed by the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services), Patel said that this program gives non-US citizens an opportunity to migrate to the US along with their close family members by investing and migrating.

He states that this is the easiest and quickest path to obtain a Green Card.

The other visa categories under which people travel to the US are on tourist and business visas, which together comprise nearly 90 percent, around 69 million, of all visitors to the United States. On the other hand, temporary workers and interns, accompanied by their spouses and children, make up for around five percent of visitors.

Included in this group are H-1B, which is given to Skilled Workers in specialised occupations, temporary agricultural workers, registered nurses, NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) professional workers, intracompany transferees and treaty traders. Meanwhile, international students account for around three percent of American arrivals.

Though many people enter the US to Study, do business, to work and so on, only a few manage to obtain permanent citizenship. That is the reason the EB-5 program is grown in popularity.  Under this program, overseas investors must invest USD 500,000 via a Regional Center for five years, besides paying other fees.  This program requires investors to create jobs for native US citizens. Another advantage for people wanting to qualify for this program is that English language skills or minimum educational qualifications are not necessary. Moreover, the EB-5 visa holders can work and locate themselves in any part of this North American country.

That is why many people from India, belonging to different professions and backgrounds, are evincing increasing interest in the EB – 5 Visa Program. This has been gaining traction in this country especially since the Trump administration has been planning to reduce the number of H-1B Visas to be granted in the near future.
