International students opting for Russia

Excellent education with low costs is the main reason why more international students are opting for Russia.

Russia has a dynamic research environment, says Russel Chan, a postdoctoral researcher at The Higher School of Economics, Moscow. The HSE has one of the best Neuroeconomics centres in Europe. Neuroeconomics is the study of how financial decisions happen in the brain. Almost 40% of the students at the HSE are from overseas.

The HSE offers courses in Neuroeconomics in English. Snigdha Mohan has been able to continue her studies in English at the HSE. She is an exchange student from the UK’s University of Warwick.

Yaroslav Kuzminov, Rector of HSE, says that the university tries its best to attract international students. It has various summer and winter schools which invite international students and well-known scientists in their field. The University also organizes international scientific competitions in collaboration with the Association of Global Universities.

Russia houses more than 300,000 foreign students. However, not all of them decide to study in the capital Moscow.

Sandro Araujo, a Brazilian student, opted for the city of Vladivostok. He was attracted by the high quality of education as well as cheap costs. He says that the cost of a month of study in South America is equivalent to a year in Russia, as quoted by Euro News.

Sandro also says that the application and the visa process to study abroad in Russia are also very easy.

Vladivostok boasts of international students from over 70 countries in the world. The city also offers a number of English-taught courses. The number of research opportunities is also endless.

In the University’s centre for nanotechnology, Russian scientists along with their Vietnamese counterparts are studying exhaust fumes of vehicles. They are working together to identify the most toxic nanoparticles emitted by ships, cars, and motorcycles.

Trong Hien, a research student from Vietnam says that many of his friends had come to Russia to study. He also says that most of his teachers had also studied in Russia. That was why he decided to study in Russia too.
