In addition to becoming a citizen of Ireland, an Irish visa allows you to work and unrestrictedly travel in the European Union’s 27 countries. If you have lived in a European Union country for a stipulated period of time, you are eligible for health care, pension rights and unemployment compensation in Ireland.
According to Irish Central, getting an Irish visa is easy but getting an Irish citizenship takes much longer.
Another way of getting an Irish passport is to marry an Irish citizen. But there are certain riders: You should have been married to an Irish citizen for a minimum of three years; you should have resided for one year continuously in Ireland just before you apply; and you should have been residing in the Republic of Ireland for at least two of the four years prior to that one year of continuous stay.
To become a permanent resident of Ireland, you should have lived permanently in the country for the last five years when you apply, be aged over 18 and should not have a criminal record.
