Canada immigration features prominently in the routine enquiries that an immigration consultant gets in any given day in almost every prominent city of India.
With welcoming immigration policies that are a stark contrast to the stance of the neighboring U.S., Canada has probably never been as attractive for immigration as it has become in the recent past.
Canada’s immigration targets, both for the future as well as the recent past, are as below:
Year | Immigrants |
2021 | 401,000 |
2022 | 411,000 |
2023 | 421,000 |
With over a million newcomers to be welcomed between 2021 to 2023, now is probably the best time to look for certified Canada immigration consultants.
To offset the negative economic and fiscal impacts of its aging population and low birth rate, Canada maintains high levels of immigration.
The country could not meet the immigration targets it had set for 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic and to compensate for this, it has set huge immigration targets for the next three years.
As such, in the future, Canada will face the challenges of rising its economy and supporting government spending. It is possible to mitigate these problems by accepting more immigrants to boost labor and economic development.
Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP):
For addressing the acute labour shortage in Canada, especially in the regional areas, Canada launched a Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) in 2020 that will open up new pathways for immigrants to settle down in Canada.
When an overseas-born immigrant decides to take the RNIP route to Canada, the immigrant will be able to settle down in any of the communities taking part in the Pilot.
A total of 11 communities from 5 Canadian provinces – Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba – are participating in the RNIP.
Of these, 9 have started accepting applications for the RNIP.
Communities participating in the RNIP are:
Community | Province | Status |
Brandon | Manitoba | Accepting applications |
Claresholm | Alberta | Accepting applications |
Altona/Rhineland | Manitoba | Accepting applications |
Moose Jaw | Saskatchewan | To be launched |
North Bay | Ontario | To be launched |
Sault Ste. Marie | Ontario | Accepting applications |
Sudbury | Ontario | Accepting applications |
Thunder Bay | Ontario | Accepting applications |
Timmins | Ontario | Accepting applications |
Vernon | British Columbia | Accepting applications |
West Kootenay | British Columbia | Accepting applications |
About 2,750 principal applicants (with their families) can be approved for PR under RNIP.
Owing to the positive response received, there are also plans for converting the Atlantic Immigration Pilot into a permanent program.
The Liberals have also proposed a Municipal Nominee Program wherein “local communities, chambers of commerce, and local labor councils” can directly sponsor new immigrants.
A minimum of 5,000 spaces in a year are expected to be available under the Municipal Nominee Program.:
When taken together – the Atlantic Immigration Pilot, the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, and the proposed Municipal Nominee Program – will make it much easier for migrants to get their Canada PR in 2021.
