Starting Sept. 1, travelers will no longer be able to purchase visas-on-arrival in Kenya but will instead need to apply and pay for their visas online onwww.ecitizen.go.ke.

This facility is for single entry tourists and transit visas only.

The Kenyan Department of Immigration Services launched the online visa-application portal on July 1, initiating a two-month pilot scheme for online visas. The department agreed to have a grace period, whereby visas may still be purchased on arrival until Aug. 31.

In order to apply for a single tourist or transit visa online, visitors will need to register by going to the above website and uploading a passport-size photo. Applicants will need to pay a fee of $51 for single entry visas or $21 for transit visas.

Applications will be processed online and the resulting visa emailed to the applicant who is then required to print the approved application and present it to an immigration officer at the point of entry as well as at the time of check-in.
