The United States is a popular study abroad destination for Indians because of the quality of education, the wide variety of programs and the huge number of colleges and universities. In spite of the huge choice available to Indian students, there are certain universities which are popular with them. These universities tend to have the maximum number of Indian students.

According to a survey done by Open Doors, here is the list of universities with the maximum number of international students of which the second largest number are Indian students, the top spot is taken by Indian students.

University of Southern California, Los Angeles

Established in 1880, the University of Southern California, Los Angeles is the oldest private research university in California. USC has 21 schools and colleges, including vocational programs, and offers about 250 majors and minors.

New York University, New York

Albert Gallatin and Mordecai Manuel Noah founded NYU in 1831, making it one of the oldest research universities in the world. It is one of the United States’ largest private higher learning non-profit institutions and was elected to the Association of American Universities in 1950. It is housed in six centers in parts of New York, and in over a dozen places around the world.

University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign

It was founded in 1867, initially as the Industrial University of Illinois. Classes began in March 1868. It is known to be a school in the “public Ivy league” providing a comparable education at a public school price to Ivy league schools. UIUC consists of 17 schools, colleges and institutes, including the Aviation Institute.

Purdue University

The flagship of the six-campus Purdue University system is Purdue University, established in 1869. More than 200 undergraduate majors, 70+ master’s and doctoral programs, plus advanced degrees in pharmacy and veterinary medicine, are offered by its 10 schools and colleges. Notable achievements include becoming the first college to provide flight training credit; awarding the first aviation bachelor’s degree for four years.

Columbia University

Columbia University was founded in 1754 and is the oldest higher learning institution in New York state, and the fifth oldest in the United States. Columbia, an Ivy League institution, is one of the Association of American Universities’ 14 founding members and currently has about 20 schools and colleges.

Arizona State University

In 1885, Arizona State University was established. It is known to be a university with very high RU/VH research operation. It is a member of the Research Association of Universities as well. There are currently 15 universities, schools and institutions, including the W.P. The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Media, the Carey School of Business and the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.
