New Zealand Skills Shortage

The New Zealand economy is currently facing a skills shortage epidemic and is in dire need of new skilled workers to continue to drive its economy forward.

New Zealand is currently falling behind close neighbour Australia and Canada in its bid to attract skilled migrants, with both of the aforementioned countries seeing a drastic increase in their skilled migrant intake.

The country is desperately in need to skilled workers across a range of occupations with architects, teachers, technicians and social workers among some of the most sought after employees.

New Zealand currently has a list of both long and short term skill shortages to attract potentially skilled employees to take up jobs and residence within the country.

The Labour party’s spokesperson on immigration Ruth Dyson believes at this time the Government should look at increasing skilled migration to fill the voids that exist throughout New Zealand society.

“The Minister’s response seems to be that we have an increasing number of unemployed, therefore we should reduce the number of people coming to New Zealand from overseas. This is an extremely shallow and damaging analysis.” states Dyson.

“This is too important for short term thinking. We need to retain and attract the skills that we need to build a strong New Zealand for the future.”

If you have a skill that is currently in demand then New Zealand businesses may be looking for you.
