US Citizenship and Immigration Services

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is reviewing and updating the policy rules of Form I-693. The update is for the two years validity period of Form I-693 which is the Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record.

The revised policy will go into effect from November 1st, 2018, as per USCIS News. According to the new policy, applicants must submit Form I-693 with a civil surgeon’s sign. This application must be submitted not more than 60 days before submitting the actual application for an immigration benefit.

From the date of signature by the civil surgeon, the form will be valid for a period of two years. USCIS has decided to hold on to the two-year period for the validity. But to improve operational efficiencies and decrease the number of requests for the new form, the calculations may vary.

The USCIS officers will use the Form I-693 to find out if an applicant who has applied for the immigration benefit is allowed on health-related grounds. The 60 days window is given as the signature is connected to the timing of the original application. This window also maximizes the time for the Form I-693, while the original form is under the USCIS’s review.

If the USCIS officers believe that an applicant cannot be allowed on health-related aspects, they can request a new Form I-693. If there are fewer requests for the revised Forms I-693, the delays in judging the original application will also be reduced.
