The Coronavirus pandemic has put the whole world in a sort of lockdown and this has had an impact on the citizens of every nation affected by the virus. While a lockdown has economic implications for the country, the citizens are stressed out thinking on the impact it will have on their jobs and livelihood.
They are worried about losing their jobs due to layoffs, furloughs and salary cuts. They are now looking at options to relocating to other countries by finding a job there or migrating on a PR visa.
Canada a favored destination:
While choosing a destination to work or migrate abroad, they prefer to settle down in a country which protects the rights of immigrants and helps them during a crisis such as COVID-19. In this aspect Canada has emerged as a top destination owing to the government’s efforts to help its citizens and immigrants during this crisis. The government has announced a – $30 Billion interest free loan to protect the economy. It has als0 announced that the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) will provide $2000 a month for up to four months to the residents of the country.
All these factors make Canada a favored destination to migrate or work abroad. The country on the other hand is showing all signs that it will continue with its immigration policies despite the Coronavirus crisis.
Immigration programs continue:
The Federal government of Canada had announced in its immigration plans to invite 341,000 immigrants in 2020, an additional 351,000 in 2021, and welcome another 361,000 immigrants in 2022. To keep up with its immigration programs, the country continues to hold Express Entry draws.
In the three draws held in March 2020, 7800 ITAs were released by the IRCC showing that Canada is committed to achieving the immigration goals outlined in the 2020-2022 Immigration Level Plan, considering the special measures placed in place as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
On March 17th, British Columbia conducted its biggest new draw for the BC Tech Pilot for the Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP).
For the month of April, IRCC has already held two Express Entry draws:
- 9th April 2020 – 3294 candidates invited
- 9th April 2020 – 606 candidates invited (Provincial Nominees only)
These draws indicate that Canada is keen to welcome more immigrants to the country. Its immigration policies are designed to help the country’s economic growth in the future as well. The country expects immigrants who come to the country during economic lows to contribute to the country’s economic growth in the future.
By welcoming more immigrants, the country’s labor force will increase which can be used productively. Considering this it makes more sense to welcome immigrants in times of economic downturn. Immigrants is they will contribute to the economy by creating a demand for goods and services once they come to the country.
The good news is the immigration authorities in Canada are trying to provide uninterrupted immigration services for those who are in the process of applying for a Canadian visa or intend to apply for one.
The IRCC has extended the deadline for permanent visa applications by 90 days. Temporary visa holders are also being given extra time to apply for an extension.
Best time to make your application is now:
There has been a slight decrease in the number of applications due to the prevailing conditions. By making your visa application now, you can improve your chances of being in the pool and increase your chances of selection in draws and getting an ITA.
This is the right time to apply for Canada PR
