You have decided to study abroad and have zeroed in on Europe to pursue your studies. You will have to do you research and decide on the European country where you want to study. Does the process of applying to various universities seem overwhelming? Well there is no need to fret, here is a description of the step-by-step process to study in Europe.

Before we explain the process, here is a piece of advice. Begin your preparation to Study in Europe as soon as possible. When you take out enough time for research you will be confident and well-equipped to handle the admission process. This will translate into greater chances of your selection in a desired university.

Prior to describing the steps, let us mention that every university in Europe has different admission requirements and each university in a country have their own requirements. It is not possible to provide step by step instructions for each university. However, the steps mentioned below can act as a general guideline which will help you.

Study in Europe

Choose your course

The first step is to choose the degree course you want to study. You must choose a subject that fits your interests. Do more research about the subject. This will help you learn more and convince you and others on the reasons for choosing the subject.

The criteria for choosing your subject must not be based on how easy it is to find a job after doing the course or the salary you will get. Rather it should be on how far you are interested in the subject as this will help you face the challenges and hurdles you may face while doing the course.

Get to know the basic entry requirements

The basic entry requirements are similar for most universities in Europe. Plan on how you will meet them. Later you can focus on the specific entry requirements for your chosen course university and country. The general entry requirements for most universities in Europe include:

  • School leaving certificate at the secondary or high school level which indicate you have completed your schooling and are qualified to pursue further studies
  • Proof of English language proficiency to show that you can read, speak, and write in the English language. For this you should take the TOEFL or IELTS exam. However, some universities in Europe do not require these tests especially if the course language is not English
  • Letter(s) of recommendation- you should get letters from figures of authority that recommend you for higher studies
  • A valid passport
  • Medical Certificate to vouch for your medical health
  • Proof of funds to prove that you have the funds to support your studies at least for the first year
  • You will be required to pay some application fee for processing your application

Entry requirements for a course

Apart from the general entry requirements, there will be specific requirements in the country you have selected or for the course you selected. To know more visit the website of the university and get details of the entry requirements to the course.

The entry requirements can also vary from country to country. For instance, in the UK, your application will be accepted through the UCAAS system.

For admission to courses in Italy, Germany, Portugal or Spain, you will have to first check if you qualify with your existing educational qualifications. You must get an affirmation from a relevant authority that you are eligible for further studies.

As for EEA countries, most of them require applicants to write an entrance exam for admission to courses.

Put the requirements together

Once you are aware of the basic entry requirements and the specific requirements for the course, start collecting the documents. Make a checklist of the documents, this will remind you of what is required, and the action needed to obtain these documents.

Check for any available scholarships and grants

You can check on available financial aid to your course in the form of scholarships and grants. If they are available, apply for them as soon as possible. This will improve your getting them. Browse the websites of your shortlisted colleges and universities to know more about them.

Submit your application before the deadline

Once your documents are ready, submit your application well before the deadline. Keep a tab on the deadlines of the various universities you are applying for so that you can finish your application on time.

These are the steps you must follow to Study in Europe. You can take the help of an immigration consultant to understand the process and for submission of applications forms well before the deadline.
