Students applying for visa to study in the UK after 12 November 2015 will have to show more funds as maintenance fees.

The amount one will need to show as maintenance fees (living expenses), when making a Tier 4 (General) visa application, will increase from £820 per month to £1015 per month. Dependents’ maintenance fees will increase from £460 to £680 per month.

Students will need to show this amount for the length of the course or 9 months, whichever is shorter. Therefore one may require funds of £9135 for their living expenses if he or she is studying a course that is longer than 9 months.

The Home Office (UKVI) is also removing the ‘established presence’ rule from 12 November 2015, which means anybody making a Tier 4 (General) visa application on or after the 12 November 2015 will need to show £1015 per month for a maximum of 9 months.
