Things you must know before applying for Overseas Education

Overseas Education has become a trend among Indian youth. It is an exciting venture for every student but at the same time, a daunting step. As reported by Mathrubhumi, most of the Indian students are migrating to Australia. It seems like an easier option to them than the US and UK.

Amit Dasgupta, the India Country Director for Univesity of New South Wales confirmed the same. He mentioned some of the key points students must know before applying for Overseas Education.

Let’s have a look at each of them

Research is imperative:

Students must do their homework. The following information is essential for planning Overseas Education –

  • Which course to study
  • Which country you prefer
  • The eligibility criteria to enter that country
  • How much Overseas Education in the country would cost

Mr. Dasgupta added that for Indian students, studying in Australia is a cheaper option. Other countries like the US or UK have many challenging criteria to fulfill.

Know how to apply:

Students must know which education agencies are authorized by the University of their Choice. The list should be available on the University’s website. Also, the agencies should not charge the students for the services they provide. They are paid by the Universities.

Know the ‘Why’ first:

Students must know why they want to pursue Overseas Education. At first, they should focus on the ‘Why’. For instance, they should ask themselves the following questions –

  • Why would I like to study Finance?
  • Why get a postgraduate degree abroad?
  • Why can I not get the same degree from an Indian University?

Once the ‘Why’ is clear in their mind, the ‘Where’ and ‘How’ would fall into place.

Be open to change:

The idea of pursuing Overseas Education is often daunting to students. More than often, parents have countless fears. There are many concerns such as the diverse culture, difference in thinking, making new friends and adapting to the place. Both parents and students must be open to new changes. It would help students settle in the country easily.

Be passionate about learning:

The education system in foreign countries is different in many ways. It is more active than that in India. One must be passionate about their Overseas Education right from the beginning. It’s not only about reading books. It’s more about how actively students take part in the researches, educational activities and learning programs. Employability too depends on the same.
