Universities in the United Kingdom have dominated the list of best universities as per the latest world universities rankings. Of the top 200 universities featured in the list, educational institutions from the UK take up around a third. In addition, of the top 100, around 39 universities have grabbed places in probably the most important universities ranking lists in the world for potential students. The list is one of the first go-to websites for potential student immigrants, influencing their choice of city, country, educational options and future.
In the top 20, the usual suspects have managed to stay put. While the University of Oxford has taken up the second best in the world position, the University of Cambridge is at number 4, Imperial College London at number 8, and followed by University College London (UCL) at 14 in the world. However, countries like the US, Switzerland, Singapore, Canada and Australia are giving tough competition.
Mr. Phil Baty, the editor of the world university rankings, states that student immigration is highest from nations like China who continue to send many overseas students to the UK> countries like Indonesia and India are able to retain the number of additional students for their surplus of educated citizens. India, which is its biggest source of foreign students, had seen a drop in the past years because of the 2012 ruling to scrap the post study work visa. However, as the New Year progresses, the British High Commission has made changes to bring in foreign talent. Scotland in particular has been high on student’s agenda.
