What are the facts behind SAT exam cancellation for 2020?

Due to concerns regarding Coronavirus, several tests have been cancelled by the College Board (SAT test-maker). These include the test on May 2, 2020 and the makeup exams in March. The most recent cancelation is the exam on June 6, 2020. The questions on the minds of every SAT test taker is whether their SAT exam is cancelled or when can they take the SAT exam.

We will try to answer some of these questions on SAT exams for this year.

Next SAT exams

The College Board (the test-maker) has cancelled both the May and June 2020 general SAT and SAT subject exams. They are not making any commitment on when they will resume testing. However, they have mentioned on their website that they will be providing SAT tests every month starting in August, depending on public health and safety.

More students more center’s

In addition, the College Board plans to accommodate more students than usual by expanding its testing sites. New locations will include these additional SAT testing opportunities. Check their website over the coming weeks to see where those autumn exams will be offered. A further January 2021 test date may also be added if there is enough demand.

Absence of makeup exam options

More than anybody else, the people at the college board realize that taking the SAT is important to high school students applying for colleges. At the same time, they must prioritize student safety above all else. Right now, offering in-person examinations is dangerous from a public health standpoint. And while it’s way better for the safety of students, it takes a lot of time to develop a digital exam.

Given the timing of college applications, many seniors entering college this fall will already have taken the examination by spring 2020. Meanwhile, juniors at high school have the option of taking the exam this coming fall or winter without jeopardizing their acceptance at college. So, will the SAT be cancelled this year?  Most probably it will not be cancelled unless public health will continue to be an issue.

Cancellation of the SAT exam

For now, is the SAT cancelled? Yes, at least for the next few months. It doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to take it finally. It’s also important to note that colleges should understand your situation fully. The exam is cancelled for everyone right now, after all. Focus on remaining safe and secure for the moment.
