Where can I get an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) in 2022

The purpose of an educational credential assessment (ECA) is to substantiate that possession of your foreign degree, diploma, certificate (or any other qualification proof of yours) is legitimate and equivalent to the one that Canada offers to its students.

It is necessary to obtain ECA, particularly if you want to migrate to Canada, to enrol in a college/university for a degree/diploma/certificate program there when you apply for the Atlantic Immigration Program.

If you have an ECA, your qualification is sufficient and on par with Canadian certifications. Moreover, an ECA will better your registration score. For instance, if you are applying for a Canadian visa, points will be added to your Express Entry BC registration/ Skills Immigration. Moreover, an ECA will also be needed in your BC PNP Express Entry BC application if your IRCC Express Entry report needs it.

ECAs eligibility requirements

Your ECA report must demonstrate that your overseas degree/certificate/diploma is equivalent to a concluded Canadian high school or secondary school, or post-secondary qualification. You need to submit an ECA for any type of completed foreign education you want Canadian immigration authorities to regard.

It is, however, in your hands to pick the credentials that you want to get evaluated by an authorized entity. Only then would the immigration authorities of this North American country accept the ECA. The Canadian immigration authorities will decide for the entity a date on or after which they can issue the original ECA report. The report must be less than five years old when you apply.

Applicants who need ECAs

All the applicants for a Canadian PR visa who have studied outside of Canada must get their ECA if they are applying to the Federal Skilled Workers Program or are looking to garner points for the education they underwent in a country other than Canada.

If you have completed a degree, diploma, or certificate course in Canada, you do not need an ECA. But if you are planning to take your spouse or partner along with you to Canada, you would then need to obtain an ECA for them if you are looking to earn points for the education they pursued to apply for a PR visa.

It will also help you earn points as per the educational criteria necessary for your CRS score. Primarily, an ECA is needed for the highest level of education completed. For instance, if you have completed a master’s degree, an ECA would be needed specifically for that course only and not for any others completed by you. If you possess two or more credentials for an ECA, you would require credentials for both of them.
