Britons are welcoming of highly skilled immigrants

Over half of people in the United Kingdom are in favour of welcoming more Highly Skilled Immigrants. This was revealed by a research conducted jointly by Ipsos Mori, a market research company of UK, and King’s College London.

About 52 percent of adult Britons were of the view that immigrants entering their country to work in Highly Skilled Jobs should be allowed. On the other hand, 12 percent of them were against it.

They, however, were less accommodating towards lower-skilled migrants as only 18 percent of the UK citizens approved of them and more than 40 percent said they wanted fewer of these to come to the UK.

A recent survey of ONS (Office for National Statistics), an executive office of the UK authority, revealed that immigration was crucial for the sectors of wholesale, hospitality, retail and health, where 1.5 million immigrants were employed.

Philip Hammond, the Chancellor, had also stated that Highly Skilled Workers such as bankers and businessmen will not be subject to restrictions after Britain leaves the European Union.

The Independent quotes Mr Hammond as saying during a committee hearing that he would certainly want the movement of highly skilled people to be facilitated between financial organisations and business houses for supporting investment in the UK economy.

Kully Kaur-Ballagan, research director at Ipsos Mori, was quoted by The Independent as telling it the there was a clear support to let in more students talented workers into Britain.
