A Summary of Canada's new immigration priorities

Laying down the aim of building a healthier, more resilient future”, the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau has – on December 16, 2021 – issued a total of 38 mandate letters, one for each of the Cabinet ministers.

Available publicly, mandate letters lay down the commitments that each of the ministers will be expected to accomplish, as well as the challenges to be addressed in their role.

Mandate letters outline the expectations that the Canadian PM has from each of the Ministers, along with giving Canadians a clear idea as to how the Government of Canada plans on delivering its agenda.

As per the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Mandate Letter, there is a need to bring in more newcomers to all regions of Canada. Newcomers that will support the economic recovery of Canada from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Strengthening of family reunification and the reduction of application processing time – especially for those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic – are also on the agenda.

As per the mandate letter by PM Justin Trudeau, certain commitments are to be achieved as part of Canada’s new immigration priorities.
