Scholarships for Indian Students

Indian students who dream of studying abroad often wish that they had access to scholarships and grants that will help them meet the cost of their studies. With foreign undergraduate and post-graduate courses becoming expensive to pursue any study abroad, scholarships can be a boon to help students pursue their dreams.

Here is a list of 5 scholarships Indian students can access if they decide to study abroad:

  1. Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship

The United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) provides the Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship. This is applicable for Indian students seeking who wish to pursue postgraduate courses in any US institution.

Eligibility: Students who have completed a four-year bachelor’s degree course and have three years of work experience.

What the scholarship covers: Tuition fees, economy airfare, textbooks, and a living stipend.

Application date: The application to this scholarship opens in June every year for the next academic year.

  1. The Tata Scholarship

The Tata Scholarship is offered by the Tata Education and Development Trust. With this scholarship students can pursue undergraduate courses at Cornell University in the US.

Eligibility: Students must have attended secondary school in India and must have secured admission to Cornell university. They must be eligible for need based financial aid.

What the scholarship covers: Tuition fees, food, medical, and travel expenses, and living expenses.

Application date: The application to this scholarship opens in October-November and selection of candidates is done by December.

3.The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship for studying in the UK

The Commonwealth Scholarships Commission offers this scholarship for students from Commonwealth nations, including India, for postgraduate studies in the UK.

Eligibility: Students who have completed education in English medium with minimum 60% in social Sciences/humanities or 65% in engineering/technology/science/agriculture courses.

What the scholarship covers: Tuition fees, economy airfare, textbooks, and a living stipend.

Application date: The application to this scholarship opens in August every year.

  1. The Inlaks Scholarships

The Inlaks Scholarships is offered to students wishing to study postgraduate courses like Masters, MPhil, or PhD at top universities in the US, the UK, and Europe.

Eligibility: Open to Indian citizens who have been continuously living in India for the past six months before making the scholarship application. They must have a first-class degree from a recognized university/institution in India.

What the scholarship covers: Tuition fees, adequate living expenses and one-way travel allowance and health allowance.

Application date: The application to this scholarship opens in January every year and is open till March 31.

  1. Chinese government scholarship

For Indian students wishing to study in China, the Chinese Government offers scholarships under the India-China Cultural Exchange Program. Scholarships are offered for undergraduate/postgraduate/doctoral programs in Chinese universities.

Eligibility: Students with minimum 60% marks and knowledge on China’s geography, culture, and heritage.

What the scholarship covers: Tuition fee and living expenses

Application date: The application to this scholarship opens in March every year.
