Singapore is calling out to for data scientists, engineers and technologists abroad to emigrate back to Singapore to figure on the ‘Smart Nation’ plan. Recently, the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) extended Singapore’s initial Smart Nation Fellowship Programme that is primarily targeting Singaporeans working abroad.

One of the targets has been the logistic business in Singapore. The industry is about to grow at a quicker pace, with the setting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Economic Community (AEC) and Singapore’s drive on the way to a Smart Nation tag, in line with business leaders watching. Additionally, the country’s geographical position makes it a key entryway into the South East Asia geographic region. Once the Government makes such a definitive push, we can expect vendors to drag out all the stops to make the most on the aim.

Singapore is technically a city-state, being both a town and an independent nation. Singapore is the world’s third most densely inhabited nation that is progressively becoming older. Some research says that by the year 2030, the aged population in Singapore is anticipated to triple to 900,000. These changes are expected to make challenges that add pressure to sustain current standards of transportation, environmental and medical property, as well as urban needs like energy, food and water.

Globally, cities are experimenting with ‘Smart City’ technologies to tackle problems like traffic and waste management. However, Singapore is concentrating on two core challenges of aging population and urban density.

The IDA in a statement said that “Singapore is pushing towards becoming the world’s first Smart Nation, one that will improve the quality of life for individuals and business opportunities for enterprises.” IDA has established the target to change and supply a speedy, secure, and efficient nationwide communication infrastructure for faster data collection and to help its large logistic industry.

The IDA says it that it hopes to be ready to gain higher ‘real-time’ awareness through ‘real-time’ information collection through a blanket of sensors – nationwide. Its smart nation activities are expected to assist innovation within the profession through networked environments to help business growth.
