South Koreans can now get a visa on arrival in India

With effect from 1st October 2018, South Koreans can get a visa on arrival in India. The move is aimed at boosting the inflow of travellers from South Korea.

After Japan, South Korea is the second country that India offers a visa on arrival. Japanese citizens have been given this privilege since March 2016.

South Korean nationals would now be able to avail the visa on arrival facility at the below airports:

1. New Delhi
2. Chennai
3. Kolkata
4. Hyderabad
5. Mumbai
6. Bengaluru

India issues around 2 lakh visas to South Korea every year. 80% of these are Tourist Visas. Approximately 600 South Koreans land in Delhi daily, as per The Times of India.

The visa on arrival facility to South Koreans would also include double entry visit for up to 60 days.

India earlier had the provision of visa on arrival facility for 12 countries. The facility was, however, discontinued after the introduction of the e-Tourist Visa Scheme.

The number of visitors to India under the e-visa scheme has gone up from 447,000 in 2015 to 1.7 million in 2017. Till 31st October 2018, the figure had gone up to 1.87 million. As per a Home Ministry official, India may hit the 2 million mark by year-end.

India’s e-visa facility is available to almost 166 countries of the world. Visitors may arrive at any of the 26 designated airports or 5 seaports. They do not need to interact with any immigration official before checking in at the counter for Immigration.

Under the e-Visa system, travellers receive an email which authorizes them to travel to India. The travellers may take a printout of the email while coming to India. They need to present the email to the immigration authorities who then allow them to enter the country.
