UAE Universities

Students from India are increasingly enrolling in UAE Universities in order to keep away from competition back home. They are also hopeful of obtaining high-paying jobs in the Emirates after graduation.

Indian students are seeking to study abroad due to severe competition at top Universities in India. The UK and the US have been the conventional choices of Indian students. However, the UAE has emerged as the top choice in 2019 as the UAE Universities have reported an increase in Indian students.

30,000 overseas students have enrolled in the free zone Universities in Dubai this year. Out of these, 14% are from India. The overall admission of students with Indian heritage is around 8,000. Majority of the Universities in Dubai are in free zones as they get tax benefits, as quoted by the National AE.

Knowledge and Human Development Authority Head of Higher Education Dr. Warren Fox said that large numbers of Indian students have always arrived at the Indian Universities. However, there has been an overall increase in 2018, he added. KHD is the education regulator in Dubai. Business and Engineering are the most chosen subjects, he informed.

While competition is less fierce in the UAE some course fees are around 10 times the cost in India. An Engineering Degree at a prestigious University like the Indian Institute of Technology costs annually around Dh 10,500. An Engineering Master’s Degree at Dubai’s Rochester Institute of Technology costs annually Dh 101, 400.

An MBA degree of 2 years full-time costs Dh 549 annually at the New Delhi’s Faculty of Management Studies. Meanwhile, a 3-year Bachelor’s degree at the University of Birmingham in Dubai in Finance, Banking, and Money costs yearly Dh 82, 030.

Rochester Institute of Technology, Admissions, Finance, and Administration Vice President Saleh Yammout said that strong interest from Indian students has been registered. We are thus increasingly collaborating with Indian agencies for enrolling student, he added.

Students from India make up around 22% of the student population in Rochester Institute of Technology. It enrols students through education fairs, exhibitions, and school visits. It has also enhanced partnership with agencies.

RIT Dubai had also hosted an Immersion Program on smart cities. It partnered with an institute in India that sent executives to Dubai for drawing students. However, one of the major attractions could the curriculum at RIT said Yammout.
