Y-Axis had reported that the Government of India has approved the ‘visa on arrival’ facility to the voters of Japan. In response, Japan has offered a similar facility to voters of India by more easing of visa rules for multiple entry visas for short term stay, for business and travel. Also, it has extended the validity time of the Japan visa on arrival facility from three years to five years. Further on, additionally on the table is that the enhanced length of visit on multiple entry visas, from fifteen days to thirty days. The relief of short term visa rules relies on statements stated by Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, during his historic visit to India in December last year.

After Japanese PM Shinzo Abe’s meeting with the Indian PM Narendra Modi, India and Japan had issued a joint statement that recognized the importance of facilitating short term visa exchanges between voters of the 2 countries by simplifying their respective procedures for higher relations between the two Asian giants. As per Japan authorities, current rules on the visa on arrival eligibility for multiple entry visas has been expanded to incorporate voters with previous travel records to Japan for short term visits within the past 3 years; as well as for people with travel records as temporary visitors to the other G7 countries. The other six of the ‘Group of 7’ countries are Canada, Germany, France, Italy, the UK, & the US.

The validity of this facility for business as well as for Indian students, has been extended from five to ten years as we had reported earlier. Y-Axis had published this articles in February this year and referred to the ability of multiple entry visas for Indian voters to acknowledge the strengthening of nation to nation exchanges, which is an essential point to broaden Japan’s relationship with India. Relaxation of visa norms is very important at a time when the two Asian giants want to deepen their economic & cultural partnership.
