What is the cost to study in Canada for international students

International students prefer to study in Canada as there are many universities in the country, and the level of education is very high. According to a data provided by IRCC, before the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of students who received study permits from Canada was 638,380.

In 2021, the number of students who received study permits was 621,565. The permits were issued for the courses whose duration was at least six months. Students like to come to Canada because the institutions provide different facilities like faculty, multi-cultural classrooms, research facilities, and many more.

Students also get the opportunity to work in Canada after completing their studies. Another facility that Canada provides to the students is cost of education which is more affordable in comparison to the education given in other countries. As mentioned earlier, in 2021, 621,565 study permits were issued out of which 217,410 were given to the Indian students, and they held the largest portion of the permit.

Canada provides different levels of education which include undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate. Besides these, certificate and diploma courses are also available. There are three universities in Canada whose name is present in the top 100 universities. These ranks were provided by QS World University Rankings and US News.

Cost of study in Canada

Now let us look at different costs, which students have to incur to study in Canada.

Application Fee

The universities and colleges in Canada charge a fee for submission of an application. The fee is in the range of CAD$50 and CAD$250. The fee depends upon the institution and the program chosen by the students. The fees can go up as students choose only a few universities for studying.

Common entrance tests and their fees

English proficiency has to be provided with either IELTS or TOEFL. Students should also go for GRE and GMAT for graduate level programs. The cost of these tests ranges between CAD$150 and CAD$330.

Visa fee

Students who want to study in Canada need to have a study permit, and the cost for applying for this permit is CAD$150.

Tuition fees

The tuition varies as it depends on the institutions that students choose to study. The tuition fees range between CAD$ 8,000 and CAD$52,000.

Living expenses

Another cost that the students have to bear is the living expenses. The cost depends on the province and the city in which students want to study. Living expenses of the students are in the range of CAD$12,000 and CAD$16,000 per year. Students have the option of working for part-time to bear the expenses.

Canada also provides the facility of post-graduate work programs, which helps the students to get a job after completing their studies.
