DLIs are those institutions that are approved by the provincial or territorial government in Canada for hosting international students.

What if my DLI loses its DLI status after I get my study permit?

In such a scenario, you can continue with your program of study till the expiry of your current permit.

However, renewal of your study permit is only possible if you enroll at another DLI.

Am I eligible for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Program for Canada?

Do keep in mind that not all DLIs make you eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program for Canada.

Also, even if your DLI is eligible for the Program, you will have to meet various other criteria for the same. Search for further details on a post-graduation work permit for Canada from the official website of the Canadian Government.

Even if you are not eligible for PGWP, you can still stay on in Canada and work on 2 types of work permits –

  • Openwork permit
  • Employer-specific work permit

Is my Canadian study permit my visa as well?

No. Your study permit is not a visa.

You cannot enter Canada on your study permit alone. You will require an electronic travel authorization (eTA) or visitor visa for entering the country, which will be issued to you when your study permit is approved.

What is the Student Direct Stream?

Nationals of the following countries can apply online through the Student Direct Stream –

  • India
  • Pakistan
  • China
  • Vietnam
  • Philippines
  • Senegal
  • Morocco

You can get your study permit within 20 calendar days when you apply through the Student Direct Stream.

How long can I stay in Canada on my study permit?

Usually, a study permit for Canada is valid for the duration of the study program, plus an additional 90 days.

This 90 days’ period is given for making preparations for leaving the country or for applying for an extension of stay, whichever is applicable.

How can I study in Canada cheap?

Compared to other countries across the world, higher education in Canada is generally more affordable.

Do keep in mind that the tuition fees varies based on the factors of – province, educational institution, and the course opted for.

Can I work while studying in Canada?

When in Canada on a student permit, you can –

  • Work on campus
  • Work off-campus
  • Work in Canada after completing your graduation
  • Work as a co-op student or intern
  • Help your spouse or your common-law partner work in Canada
